As well as supporting Dutch local and central governments dealing with complex European issues and helping to ‘Europeanise’ organisations wanting to expand their presence in Brussels, our EU team performs assignments for the EU institutions on a range of themes.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be at the heart of our EU advice team. Berenschot works for all levels of government (central, provincial, regional and municipal) in the Dutch public administration. We also perform assignments directly for EU institutions under various framework contracts or tenders and support cross-border collaboration. In Brussels we focus on the following key themes and competencies:

  • Energy transition
  • Strategic communications (including participation)
  • Sustainable mobility
  • Governance issues relating to structural reforms
  • Regional cooperation

You’ll use your existing network to help Berenschot gain footholds in Brussels, including with the institutions and with organisations focusing on the European Union. You’ll lead various consultancy and research projects with a European dimension and help build international consortia equipped to bid for tenders. All with the aim of winning and performing EU contracts and building Berenschot’s reputation at an EU level.

Where will you be working?

You’ll join Berenschot’s EU small core advice team of highly educated, dynamic and hard-working professionals focusing on the EU and around ten consultants working in various specialised fields and devoting some of their time and expertise to specific EU projects. The ambition is that the team will grow in the near future, also on the basis of your contribution.

Berenschot’s strength is our ability to combine sector-specific knowledge with strategic, management, financial and legal expertise in multidisciplinary teams. Our projects are generally of a political and governance nature and demand both substantive knowledge and an understanding of processes. We work from home and from our offices in Utrecht and Brussels.

You're profile

  • You have a high level of professional and intellectual ability and at least 10 years of work experience, including demonstrable experience of preparing and winning European tenders;
  • You have proven experience and a network in the EU arena through working for European institutions, associations or a European consultancy;
  • You have substantive knowledge of one or more of Berenschot’s key EU themes (energy transition, strategic communications, governance and sustainable mobility);
  • You enjoy working in the forming of an international team and can handle cultural differences effectively;
  • You can identify potential consortia partners and build lasting relationships;
  • You are highly communicative, client-focused and able to acquire assignments independently;
  • You are proactive, have a feeling for social processes and are at home in the world of governments and businesses operating at a European level;
  • You are proactive in coming up with ideas and identifying opportunities to generate new business for Berenschot EU;
  • Ideally you live in Brussels or you are willing to travel there frequently;
  • You have excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written) and ideally also a good knowledge of French and/or one of the other major European languages.

What we offer

We’re offering you the opportunity to play a decisive role in putting our European strategy into practice. That means working on complex, substantive and also commercial challenges in a dynamic and highly professional team on a daily basis. And working with experienced, enthusiastic colleagues on socially relevant issues. You’ll have wide-ranging opportunities for personal and professional development through in-house and external training courses, with excellent opportunities for promotion.

Working for Berenschot means a high degree of professional autonomy, flexible working hours and an attractive corporate culture. Our intention is to convert your initial one-year contract into a permanent contract. The salary for this full-time position is competitive, with excellent basic and fringe benefits.
