Utrecht University of Applied Sciences starts Applied Data Science profile
As of September this year, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences has a new profile, Applied Data Science, within the Master of Informatics (M.Sc.). In doing so, the university of applied sciences is responding to the increased need for data scientists in the business community and government agencies. The new profile is being developed in cooperation with Oracle and Berenschot.
Students in the part-time Applied Data Science programme will be learning to program and visualise in Python and R software programs. The master programme is of modular construction and comprises professional master‑classes, research and personal skills. The lectures are delivered by guest lecturers from the business community, to ensure that this connects with current market requirements.
Berenschot is contributing with a Programming & Visualisation master-class. ‘We want to use our experience with everyday and concrete issues to convey the possibilities of data science,’ stated consultant Ard Kot, who will be delivering the master-class. ‘It is also interesting for us to obtain a picture of the issues that students bring with them from the organisations in which they are working. They could be an important network for us.’ Oracle is delivering a master-class in Machine Learning within the new profile.
