Award for blockchain initiative: ‘Platform Forus’
The ‘Platform Forus’, an initiative set up by the consortium comprising Foundation Forus, the Municipality of Zuidhorn, QHN IT specialists and Berenschot, is one of the two winners of the blockchain competition run by the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) phase II.
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) devised the SBIR competition with the aim of using blockchain technology to resolve issues connected with government services, energy and healthcare. The winners successfully presented their feasibility studies and were jointly awarded € 250,000 to develop at least two prototypes. This will allow the continuation of the competition, which was launched in 2017 with 38 entrants and five feasibility study assignments.
Blockchain platform Forus: for decentralised handling of municipal services
Platform Forus is an online blockchain platform on which applications for handling municipal services can be built. The use of blockchain makes the data more reliable and municipal operations more efficient. In addition, there are lower administration costs, residents find it more user-friendly and there is less regulation.
The platform is being developed cohesively by taking technical, organisational and legal aspects into account.
