This morning, Kenyan Governor Hon. Hassan Ali Joho of Mombasa County visited Berenschot with a large delegation of public officials. Among the officials, Minister for Transport Hon. Taufiq Salim Mohamed Balala and Minister for Water, Environment and Natural Resources Hon. Fatma Abdalla Ali.

Berenschot is currently working on a feasibility study for Mombasa County with regard to the introduction of passenger transport over water in the city centre. The introduction of water busses, providing reliable and affordable transport services around Mombasa Island, seems to be a feasible option to reduce traffic congestion on Mombasa Island and to decrease carbon emission.

During the meeting at our office, Fons de Zeeuw of Berenschot presented various phases in project development and reviewed project financing opportunities. The focus was on infrastructure development. As financing opportunities, De Zeeuw presented programs (eg. DRIVE) and international organisations (eg. African Development Bank) available for financing public infrastructure and also organisations providing financing to private investors (eg. IFC). After the presentation, there was an energetic discussion on potential projects in infrastructure.

The Governor invited Berenschot to visit Mombasa in January for discussing specific projects to be developed.
