Berenschot Energy & Sustainability to participate in IEA Annex 42 ‘Heat pumps in Smart grids’
Berenschot Energy & Sustainability will participate in Annex 42 for the International Energy Agency (IEA). The Annex is studying the possibilities of the heat pump in combination with smart grids.
Berenschot will focus on how fluctuations in the electricity market can help the use of a heat pump in combination with a small heat buffer. For example, maximum benefits can then be obtained from the price dips on a daily and weekly basis during these fluctuations:
In the following chart we also see that price dips during the weekend in the Netherlands already exist and that they will further increase as a result of the energy agreement (encouraging renewable generation).
In the Netherlands, the same price fluctuations will occur as are now the case in Germany. Dependence on the price fluctuations, particularly under the influence of sustainability, will be key for the use of the heat pump for heating, cooling and storage in the future. With its extensive knowledge of the electricity market and fluctuations within that market, Berenschot can make an important contribution to this study. In addition, this participation offers an international stage for Berenschot’s market expertise.
