Product Board for Margarine, Fats and Oils (MVO) to be privatised
7 November 2013

‘MVO, the chain organisation for oils and fats’ was officially established on Tuesday, 5 November. The aim of the new organisation is to promote a sustainable and internationally competitive chain.

The organisations in the oils and fats sector voted by a large majority to continue the principal activities of the product board, albeit in the form of a private organisation. The member organisations include multinationals such as Cargill, Vopak and Unilever, as well as numerous smaller organisations. Collectively they represent 95% of the revenue of the oils and fats industry in the Netherlands. This is the third largest agricultural sector in the country, with revenue amounting to €6 billion.

The MVO is focused on creating a sustainable chain. The use of sustainable resources and an energy-efficient process are vitally important. Other key themes are nutrition and health, and food and animal feed safety.

Yesterday, Mr Loek Favre, COO of IOI Loders Croklaan, a producer of vegetable oils, was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board. Mr Frans Claassen was appointed Director.

Berenschot management consultants were involved in establishing the MVO chain organisation.
