International security cannot be taken for granted. The balance between peaceful cooperation and stability is fragile – as we know only too well in Europe. The United States is shifting its attention (and defence spending) from Europe to China and in the meantime, Russia is seizing ever more power. In its 2019 annual report, the Netherlands Defence Intelligence and Security Service notes that digital espionage by state actors such as the Russian Federation and China is one of the greatest threats facing the Netherlands and its allies.
The European Commission’s Green Deal set an ambitious target to make Europe the first continent to become climate neutral in 2050. By 2030 it wants to reduce CO2-equivalent emissions by at least 55% (relative to 1990 levels), a significant step up from its previous 40% reduction target. In a new research report we look at the costs of developing and improving new energy sources to achieve the 2030 target and indicate the total costs to society to attract sufficient green investments.
Berenschot is an independent management consultancy firm with 350 employees worldwide. For 80 years, we have impressed our clients in the public and business sectors with smart, new insights. We acquire these new insights and turn them into something practicable. We do this by combining innovation and creativity. Again and again. Clients prefer Berenschot because our advice gives them a head start.
Berenschot was founded in 1938 as ‘Raadgevend Bureau Ir. B.W. Berenschot’. During the last 80 years we have evolved into a company that helps clients in the public and business sectors with their policies, strategy, performance, human capital and innovations.
The activities carried out by Berenschot in the context of the CSR policy are based on the core areas identified in the ISO 26000 standard: good management, human rights, working conditions, fair business practices, consumer interests, the environment and involvement.
International cooperation is essential to safeguard international security. The European Union is taking increasing responsibility for defence and security policy and is promoting increased collaboration on defence projects, for instance through PESCO and the European Defence Fund. Nonetheless, more international cooperation is called for: to recruit and train personnel, to develop, acquire and sell equipment and to do R&D. After all, the 27 EU member states cannot guarantee the security of their external borders in splendid isolation.
In summer 2020 Berenschot will move into the ‘Life’ office complex at the Papendorp business park. Our home base will still be Utrecht but we will be leaving our current offices on the Europalaan.
The energy transition involves radical changes for the energy system. Berenschot and Kalavasta developed four climate-neutral energy scenarios for the Dutch energy system in 2050. These scenarios are based around different governance pathways to achieve the energy transition. We distinguished a regional, national, European and international pathway, with each pathways resulting in carbon neutrality. During this webinar, Bert den Ouden (Berenschot) will explore these scenarios and the energy system (including renewables, electricity, heat, storage).
Berenschot will be organising an in-house day for students on 31 May 2017. On this day, you will have the chance to take a look around at Berenschot and you will also have an opportunity to work on a case study.
Bram Lankreijer joined Berenschot as senior consultant at the beginning of April.
On Thursday, 23 March, Laura de Vaan (Online Marketing Consultant at Berenschot) gave a presentation at The Social Conference about 'How the Berenschot management consulting firm stayed true to itself online'.

The energy transition involves large changes for the energy system. Berenschot calculated climate-neutral energy scenarios for the Netherlands in 2050, with different pathways to achieve carbon neutrality. During this webinar, Bert den Ouden will explore these scenarios and especially the role of Hydrogen in the context of EU regions. Next, a high-level panel will reflect upon the four scenarios, the role of hydrogen and key challenges of the energy transition for the Benelux region.
VNCI [Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry] has instructed Berenschot and Ecofys to prepare a roadmap for energy and climate up to 2050 for the chemical industry in the Netherlands. The Roadmap 2050 must lead to a shared ambition and vision for the Dutch chemical industry.
