Generic system for supply industry

Point-One is a partnership of the Netherlands high-tech industry, knowledge institutes and the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs. The platform intends to strengthen the Netherlands’ unique position in the area of nanoelectronics and embedded systems. And asked Berenschot to develop a generic Value Sourcing instrument. With a common interface between small and medium enterprises (SME) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).

Performance improvement

The common supplier interface between SME and OEM is fortuitous. The SME is experiencing a structural performance improvement. With the associated Quality, Logistics, Technology and Total Costs (QLTC) mode of operations, it becomes possible to define and evaluate the performance of suppliers in measurable terms. This makes performance reporting possible. Furthermore, a platform has been created in which OEMs and the supply industry are able to exchange knowledge.

Review

Gert van der Heijden, Berenschot Consultant: “It was difficult for small and medium enterprises (SME) to meet international standards. The highly divergent supplier management methodologies used by OEMs hindered this possibility. The methodologies are now better aligned with each other. On the basis of the Value Sourcing methodology used by the high-tech enterprise ASML. And the associated QLTC mode of operations. The ultimate goal? That everyone eventually ends up using this methodology.”

Mode of operation

Berenschot’s approach consisted of the following elements:

  • Survey of the specific characteristics of the current supplier management methodologies used by OEMs. Including an investigation into the degree to which these match with or differ from the existing ASML Value Sourcing Model.
  • Design of a common Value Sourcing-based interface. Taking the specific requirements of the different OEMs into account.
  • Preparation of client demand profiles for the various OEMs. And make these available to the SMEs.
  • Setup of a trial project involving a number of OEMs and SMEs. Where necessary, modify the generic Value Sourcing instrument.
  • Create support for the further rollout of the Value Sourcing instrument. Implementation and sustainability.
